Who and what exactly IS StarMoon?
We are an email list of women (and a few good men) who are fans of both Sailor Moon
and Star Wars. Two years ago, this
list sprung off a Star War Chicks Nightly.Net message board thread originated
by Kyoko/Sailor Naboo. We create
characters that are patterned after Sailor Moon-type senshi but are based out of
the Star Wars galaxy far, far away. Though
not a traditional RPG, we LOVE to write stories and poetry, and draw (or edit
^.~) pictures about our characters. On our email list, we also happily discuss just about any Star Wars or Sailor Moon/Anime topic.
Where is StarMoon set?
In George Lucas' galaxy far, far away. Each
of our characters is the Sailor Jedi senshi of a particular Star Wars planet, or
of a cosmological phenomena such as Asteroid, Shooting Star, Nebula, etc. Though some of our senshi were originally from Earth and there is the
occasional rare visit there, we are firmly based in the Star Wars galaxy. It takes Sailor Yavin, the Guardian of Time and Space in the Star Wars
galaxy, a whooole lot of energy to transport large groups back to the Milky Way
galaxy, so we don't travel there very often. There are lots and lots of regular Sailor Moon RPG/fanfic communities out
there. What makes us different is
that our senshi, live, love, work and play in the Star Wars galaxy, complete
with spaceships, holovids, smugglers, Wookiees, and the Force. WE DO NOT CHANGE STAR WARS MOVIE CANON, though we do flesh out neglected
areas of Lucas's universe and play a little tiny bit looser with the Extended
Universe.
When is StarMoon set?
Our primary timeline began right after The Phantom Menace during the Old Republic. The first five senshi (Naboo, Bespin, Tatooine, Hoth, and Vjun) appeared
on Naboo immediately after TPM ends while the Jedi Council are still there. In order to make our Real Life timeline fit Lucas' timeline, we
determined that about 1 year on Earth/Milky Way Galaxy equals 3 years on
Coruscant/Snickers Galaxy. So
about six Star Wars years have passed since we began. And yes, you did read that correctly... we decided to name Lucas' unnamed
"galaxy far, far away" the Snickers Galaxy. ^_^
How do I go about creating a character?
In the past two and a half years, StarMoon has grown tremendously. Unfortunately, we feel that we've nearly reached our maximum size. Therefore, StarMoon is closed to new members except in extraordinary circumstances. Sorry!
Can I be Sailor Moon's lost sister or ChibiChibi's chibi... etc.?
In a word - NO. The SWSS story has been developed based on the concept that the senshi
are NOT related or associated in any way to Sailor Moon characters, places, or
things. Thus, your senshi cannot be the Senshi of Sailor Moon or be the second
child of Usagi and Mamoru, etc. If you need help, join the mailing list, and
we'll help clear things up. ^_^
What about mythology?
Because so much Greek and Roman mythology is already involved in Sailor Moon (and because mythology is religion), our policy on myth tie-ins is the same as Sailor Moon ones.
I joined StarMoon three weeks ago, but my profile isn't on the website. How come?
To help prevent senshi from being abandoned, StarMoon has enacted a two-month 'trial'-type period. During that time, new members can post normally on the mailing list and can write stories and create pictures, but none of their work (profile, stories, or pictures) will be posted on the website - after the two months are up, the profile will be posted *if* and *only if* the owner has written a backstory (profile pics don't count!). We know it's sorta a pain - but it gives newbies (^_~) a chance to get a feel for the atmosphere and pace of StarMoon and decide whether they want to stay long-term. ^_^
How many characters can I have?
If and only if you are taking good care of your original senshi, you may add
up to two of the following - Villain, Chibi or Knight - for a maximum of three
"transforming" characters. The only possible combinations of transforming
characters allowed is senshi/chibi/villain, senshi/chibi/knight or
senshi/villain/knight. (And no, there aren't any exceptions. ^_^) This is certainly NOT required and does assume that you will USE your additional characters. It isn't fair to other
prospective members for someone to create a second major character (secondary senshi), taking
a planet and two or three senshi-ofs out of circulation, and then neglecting them. There is nothing sadder than an abandoned senshi. -_-.
Non-transforming (non-senshi) characters, however, are unlimited and are one of the best ways to add quite a bit of depth to a main character's saga.
Where do the Senshi live?
As Sailor Jedi, we are based out of the Jedi Temple on Coruscant. The Jedi Council kindly gave us an unused complex of rooms
just off of the Room of a Thousand Fountains (mentioned in the Jedi Apprentice
books) accessed by a door behind one of the many waterfalls. The Rooms Behind the Waterfall, abbreviated RBTW, consist of a large main
common room complete with comfy chairs, scattered tables, a large kitchen and
many cozy nooks with full Galactic Net access computers, of course! Off the main room
are hallways leading to the senshi living quarters (each senshi has their own
room if they wish, complete with private bath). We also have a small library, an art studio, a crafts/hobby room, a music
room, and a special holovid/TV viewing room where one of our mechanically-inclined senshi adapted a large screen Earth TV to work off of Coruscant power. Extra rooms are dreamed up as needed for plots. ^_^ Some of our senshi even have small gardens in the Room of a
Thousand Fountains. We are also
welcome (for the most part ^.~) to use any of the Temple facilities as
long as we do not disrupt any classes that may be going on.
How do the senshi get around the Star Wars/Snickers galaxy?
Quite a few of our senshi have ships, which reside in their own docking bay in the
Jedi Temple's docking complex. We
can also use Jedi transports or other Coruscant transportation. And once in a very great while, some of the senshi succeed in convincing Sailor Yavin to use her Big Time Stick to transport them - usually through a deal involving backstage passes to a N*aboo concert.
What should I keep in mind while writing a story?
Our ever-helpful Sailor Bakura has given some wonderful story writing tips at http://starmoon.freeservers.com/storyhelp.htm. One of the main things to remember is that we do NOT change Star Wars
movie canon! So yes, Qui-Gon is
dead and Anakin will fall to the Dark Side. This is very important as we have many future based characters that depend on canon being observed. You
also may not change established Star Moon canon. This list has been active for two years now and has developed a complex little life of its own. So
it really helps if you read a good number of the stories already written.
If you are going to use other senshi, please try to keep them in
character. If you aren't sure, ask the senshi's creator for help. We also do NOT visit Earth very often at all as the two galaxies are very
far apart in both time and space. It
takes Sailor Yavin, the Guardian of Time and Space a huge amount of energy to
transport even one other person. There
have been cameos by other anime personas here and there over the years, but this
are never more than CAMEOS. So
Goku may visit briefly, but he's not going to LIVE here. ^_^ Also, please remember that
this list is PG to PG13 at the most. Moderators will request that a
story that goes over that rating be edited before being posted to the list or
added to the website. Please be considerate of our younger list members!!
How do I share my story with the list?
After you finish your opus, PLEASE spell- and grammar-check it, then just cut and paste
it into a regular Star Moon post. Our
list does NOT accept attachments. If
your story is very large, you may have to post it in parts. We also ask that you don't indent and remember to put double spaces between
paragraphs and/or changes in point-of-view. One single huge paragraph is almost impossible to read! So, when a different person speaks, PLEASE give them their own new
paragraph by using a double space. Otherwise
it gets verrrry confusing. ^_^ After all the parts are posted, then Star Moon Webmistress Lauren will format it into HTML and
upload it to our website.
How can I make pictures of my senshi and share them with the list?
A good place to start is to use one of the many Sailor Moon online
coloring books to get an idea of what you want your senshi to look like. Once you've created a masterpiece, go to YahooGroups, which
has shared file storage for us to upload our stuff to. After you enter Star Moon's main screen, you will see Files
in a list on the left. Just click,
then go to the appropriate folder and upload your pic!! It's that easy! Then, after a week, the Pix Webmistress Kirin will remove it
and place it on your senshi's Extra Pics page. We do ask that you only upload jpgs or gifs as bitmaps are waaaaay too
huge to deal with.
What requirements are there for membership in the list?
You must love Star Wars and Sailor Moon, and being crazy does help! ^_^ We ask that
you be at least thirteen years of age as our story ratings go up to a maximum PG13. Members are expected to post at least once a month AND to
develop their character through stories *and* pictures to remain active. If you get attacked by Darth Real Life, PLEASE drop us a quick post to
let us know. We are very
understanding. ^_^ We just want to avoid 'quickly created then just as quickly abandoned'
senshi. As said earlier, there is
nothing sadder than an abandoned senshi.-_-; Obscene,
flaming or nasty emails, whether on list or directed towards a list member, will
NOT be tolerated and will result in a warning from the list moms or list aunts. If it continues, the offending member may be permanently banned from the
list. We are a friendly, supportive place and want to keep it that way.
What kind of email traffic should I expect from this list?
We are a very talkative, large list that can generate over two hundred emails a day during
the summer or school holidays - generally, it's closer to 30-50 per day. YahooGroups
does have the options of sending you your email in digests if you feel you are
getting overwhelmed. If
people use proper netiquette, it will help keep the clutter down to a
minimum. PLEASE DO NOT
USE THE LIST AS A CHAT ROOM as this really can overload the mailing list. There is a regular chat room provided through YahooGroups. Most people are NOT online all the time but have to check their mail once
a day or even less often, so please be considerate.
Why are you people always so hyper?
We aren't! It's just that the rest of the world is too slow. ^_^
If you have any other questions, please feel free to send us an email at starmoon@atypically.net.
